Summer Camps

Our summer camps will fill your child's day with fun activities, games, crafts, special events and more! Make a splash at our recreation center camps or hop, skip and jump over to our convenient school-based camps. We also have plenty of specialty camps that cater to your budding athlete, nature-lover or curious engineer! ​​​​​​​​​​
At this time, we are still planning to have summer camps but also realize we are in uncertain times with quickly evolving circumstances. Summer camp registration will continue to be online only as recreation centers remain closed until at least June 10 at this point. Should we have to cancel our summer programs, a full refund will be issued and no action will be necessary on your part.

Online Registration Note: Participants meeting program registration requirements (by grade for the 2020/21 school year) whose age does not meet the systems requirements will need to contact Registration Management at OSTRegistration@vbgov.com ​or 757-385-0402.

 Early Childhood

Our preschool, pre-k and Kinderbuddies programs are designed to encourage play, creativity, exploration and FUN! Each week will be a different theme including age-appropriate activities, crafts, swimming and on-site special events and field trips. Participants are provided snacks however they will need to bring their lunch daily. These programs are licensed and regulated by the Virginia Department of Social Services Licensing Division.

How to Register for our Licensed Early Childhood Programs
  1. Meet with one of our Early Childhood Program Supervisors at Bow Creek, Kempsville, Princess Anne or Williams Farm Recreation Center. They will share program expectations, registration requirements and answer any questions you may have.
  2. Complete and return the required forms and documents detailed below to the Early Childhood Program Supervisor
  3. An OST Registration Management Representative will contact you for payment following registration approval

Our junior and senior camps are for rising 1st – 6th graders located in select recreation centers and Virginia Beach City Public Elementary Schools. Your child will meet new friends, challenge themselves with fun and energetic recreational activities, sports, and age-appropriate field trips. Morning and afternoon snacks and lunch are needed daily. Refrigeration and microwaves are not available at school sites. Sneakers are required to participate.

Rec Centers-WAITLISTED

These camps go on two field trips per week* and have an added bonus of amenities such as swimming pools and action-packed game rooms. A recreation center membership or a daily pass is required. *One field trip will occur week #1. No field trips will occur during week #11; an on-site special event will occur that week.

Locations: Bayside-WAITLISTED, Bow Creek-WAITLISTED, Great Neck-WAITLISTED, Kempsville-WAITLISTED and Princess Anne-WAITLISTED
Hours: 7 am – 6 pm

These camps go on one field trip per week* and are located in select Virginia Beach City Public Elementary Schools. A recreation center membership or a daily pass is not required. *No field trip will occur week #1. No field trip will occur during week #11; an on-site special event will occur that week.

 RISE

Recreation Imagination Socialization Education: Summer Education Enrichment Program

RISE is a fun and educational summer enrichment program for rising 1st – 6th graders who attend a Virginia Beach City Public School. The program features enriching experiences and activities emphasizing Math, Science or Literacy as well as the key elements of RISE: Recreation, Imagination, Socialization, and Education. Participants receive breakfast and lunch each day and will go on one field trip with the date to be determined.

Please note: RISE is a nine-week summer education enrichment program and your child will participate in all academic enrichment and recreational activities each day. We require notification in writing prior to the program beginning of any dates that may conflict with the attendance requirement. Failure to do so may result in removal from the program and/or elements of this program. 

Eligibility: Participant must currently be a Virginia Beach City Public School Student receiving Free and Reduced Lunch or have an approved Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Fee Waiver. A copy of the Free and Reduced Lunch Letter (FARL) must be provided with the application form at the time of registration.

  • Priority Registration is available to any participant who is registered in our school year 2019/20 and summer 2019 programs and can register online only March 21-27, 2020. Standard Registration (online and in-person) begins March 28, 2020.​
  • All participants must have a valid recreation center membership or a day pass to participate and a completed and processed Summer Registration Form. Camp T-shirt is provided.
  • The authorized pickup must be on-site and ready to sign-out their child out with a valid ID at the end of the scheduled camp time.​

Sports Camps


Baseball Camp
Ages 6-12 | Focus on the five tools of baseball: hitting, throwing, catching, base running and pitching. Improving any of the five will take your game to the next level. Athletic clothing, sun protection, and closed-toe athletic footwear and towel required. In the event of inclement weather, we will move inside the Princess Anne Community Recreation Center. Recreation Center membership is not required. Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

Basketball Camp
Ages 6-12 | Enhance your basketball skills over the summer break. Shooting, ball-handling, defense, footwork, rebounding and other basketball-related drills will be covered in the fun play-to-learn environment. Camp will be conducted by Mark Butts of First Colonial Boys Basketball Team. Athletic clothing and closed-toe athletic footwear required.  Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

​Junior Golf Camp
Ages 8-12 | Learn the fundamentals of golf - swing, pitching, chipping, and putting in a fun environment. Each day is filled with practice, games and a little competition. Camp includes range balls, clubs if needed, awards and a completion certificate. Athletic clothing, sun protection, and closed-toe athletic footwear required.  Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

Lil Lacrosse Camp
Ages 5-9 | Cox Lacrosse Team members will coach the basics of Lacrosse and teach skills in teamwork and leadership. Play games and make new friends while learning a new sport. Rock IT Adventure & More Camp | WAITLISTED
Ages 6-12 | Spend the week participating in top-rope climbing, swimming, gym games and creating fantastic pieces of art. Team building and self-confidence will certainly be achieved this week! Athletic clothing and closed-toe athletic footwear required. Breakfast and lunch included.

Tennis Camp
Ages vary by week | This USTA-sponsored tennis camp will help new and novice participants develop tennis fundamentals (e.g. groundstrokes, volley, serve) through a fun play-to-learn style of learning. Practice match play and learn sportsmanship and game rules. Different court sizes and modified tennis equipment help youth to rally in no time. Notes: Racquets provided but you may bring your own. Athletic clothing, sun protection, and closed-toe athletic footwear and towel required. In the event of inclement weather, we will move inside the Great Neck Community Recreation Center. Back 2 Nature Camp | WAITLISTED
Ages 6-11 | Get the kids outside this summer to experience the best Virginia Beach has to offer! Each day is filled with engaging outdoor recreational activities such as kayaking, fishing, hiking and archery as well as games and crafts. Campers will travel to various parks and natural areas across the city to gain hands-on knowledge of our local surroundings, respect for wildlife, and an understanding of the importance of environmental stewardship. Drop-off available beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Creative Arts Camp
Ages 6-12 | Take the opportunity to explore the world of painting and drawing with imagination and creativity. Activities gear around painting and drawing techniques. Who knows where the next Picasso will emerge. Introduction to painting and drawing techniques and methods will get you in touch with your artistic side. Build self-confidence and self-esteem through expression. Led by Instructor Debra McCommons.  Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

Last Blast Camp 
Ages 6-12 | It's not over yet! Spend the last week before going back to school getting in some last-minute fun! Campers will spend half the day in the gym playing sports and games and the other half will be spent having fun with crafts, visits to the game room, and creative projects. Athletic clothing and closed-toe athletic footwear required. Bring a water bottle, lunch and 2 snacks each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

Lego Camp | WAITLISTED
Ages 6-12 | This is a STEM program that partners with the "Play-Well Group" and is designed to give youth the opportunity to use their imaginations and creativity while gaining valuable skills in the following areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Build lifelong skills while making new friends! Each day campers build upon the skills they learned the previous day. Other activities include sports, games and swim time! Lego Camp: City Builders WAITLISTED
Ages 6-12 | Design and build the city of dreams using a colossal collection of 10,000 Lego bricks. Aspiring engineers will engage in an instructional and creative building while collaborating as a team. This experience will boost confidence and creativity. Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Ages 6-12 | Learn amazing magic tricks from professional magician Rob Westcott​ while building self-confidence in a fun, learning environment. Magic wand and case provided. New magic tricks are demonstrated and taught each day. Perform the tricks and skills learned, in a Magic Show for family and friends! Previous participants will learn new magic tricks. Magic Camp meets 9 a.m. -12 p.m. Games, crafts, swimming, and other fun activities will fill the rest of the day. Bring a water bottle, lunch and 2 snacks each day. Magic Camp

VBe Better Volunteer Camp | WAITLISTED
Ages 8-14 | Take a weeklong journey in community service and an introduction to volunteerism throughout the City of Virginia Beach. You may accumulate up to 35 hours of community service with several different organizations and receive a signed volunteer letter. It is a meaningful summer of service you will never forget! Be prepared to depart from the recreation center by 8:15 a.m. for daily field trips.  Athletic clothing, sun protection, bug repellent and closed-toe athletic footwear required. Bring a water bottle, lunch and 2 snacks each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

World of Fashion Camp
Ages 10-17 | Become a young fashionista by creating SEVERAL cool fashion-related projects that are sure to inspire. Learn how to bag and tag your own designs that you can sell to family & friends. We will create wallets, headbands, 3D Fabric Designs, Inspiration Boards, sew a miniature push-pin pillow and so much more. We will learn the history of some top tier designers. The final day will include a field trip to a sewing studio where campers will learn firsthand what a day in the life of a real designer looks like! Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

World of Fashion Camp II
Ages 10-17 | Dive into the World of Fashion II where we will cut, design, and sew the entire 5 days. We get behind a sewing machine to design fun and creative pieces to wear or give as a gift, making fabric selections, understanding measurements and proper cutting techniques. The final day will include a field trip to a sewing studio to learn firsthand what a day in the life of a real designer looks like! Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.

 Payment, Refund & Cancellation Policy

Payment, Refund & Cancellation Policy

Most of our programs and camps require a non-refundable, non-transferrable registration fee and/or deposit at registration. The remaining balances are due according to the dates indicated on the program-specific payment schedules below. Break camps are due in full at the time of registration. Please note any past due balances must be paid in full before you can register.​​

If the remaining balance is not received by the due dates indicated on the payment schedules above, your child will be withdrawn from that session, week or sport & specialty camp.​ Please refer to the payment policy indicated on the appropriate payment schedule. Refund and Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing by a parent/legal guardian at least 7 days prior to the start date to be eligible for a refund. Registration fees and deposits are non-refundable, non-transferrable. Requests submitted less than 7 days but prior to the start date are eligible for 50% of a refund. Approved refunds will be processed back to the payer and the payment method used to pay.

  • Cash refunds are subject to availability of funds at any recreation center
  • Check refunds can take up to 30 days to be received
  • Credit Card refunds should post within 2-3 days of being processed ​​​
