Our summer child care programs will fill your child's day with fun activities, games, crafts, special events and more! Make a splash at our recreation center programs or hop, skip and jump over to our convenient school-based programs. We also have plenty of specialty camps that cater to your budding athlete, nature-lover or curious engineer! ​​​​​​​​​​

 Early Childhood

Our preschool and pre-k programs are designed to encourage play, creativity, exploration, and FUN! Each week will be a different theme including age-appropriate activities, crafts, swimming, and on-site special events. Participants are provided snacks however they will need to bring their lunch daily. These programs are licensed and regulated by the Virginia Department of Social Services Licensing Division. 

  • Preschool: 2.5 – 3.5 years old* 

  • PreK: 3.6 – 5 years old (rising Kindergartener)
  • Dates:  June 21 – September 3 (11 weeks)
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.  
  • Weekly Cost: $170
  • *A parks & recreation fee waiver is applicable for this program​​

  • *Princess Anne Recreation Center provides preschool programs for 3-year old participants only

Our junior and senior programs are for rising 1st– 6th graders located in select recreation centers and Virginia Beach City Public Elementary Schools. Your child will meet new friends, challenge themselves with fun and energetic recreational activities, and sports. Morning and afternoon snacks and lunch are needed daily. Refrigeration and microwaves are not available at school sites. Sneakers are required to participate.

  Rec Centers | Juniors rising 1st – 3rd grader | Seniors rising 4th – 6th grader  (Waitlist)  

  • Dates: June 21 – August 27 (10 weeks)
  • Hours: 7am – 6pm

  Middle School Mania Rising 6th – 9th grader  

  • 9-week locations (6/28 – 8/27): Salem Middle, Landstown Middle 
  • Hours: 7am – 6pm
  • Weekly Cost: $109

Items Needed: morning and after snack and lunch and sneakers.

 RISE

R.I.S.E Summer Enrichment Program

Our summer R.I.S.E. program will provide fun, hands-on experimental, project-based learning through four avenues: (R)ecreation, (I)magination, (S)ocialization, (E)ducation. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided daily. Participants will need to bring a morning and afternoon snack. Please note: RISE is a nine-week summer education enrichment program and your child will participate in all academic enrichment and recreational activities each day. We require notification in writing prior to the program beginning of any dates that may conflict with the attendance requirement. Failure to do so may result in removal from the program and/or elements of this program.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Current Kindergarten – 5th Grader in a Virginia Beach City Public School
  • Enrolled in Summer School at Diamond Springs, Newtown or Bettie F. Williams, Bayside & Luxford
  • Have a current Parks & Recreation Reduced Fee Waiver or receive Free and Reduced Lunch for the 2020/21 School Year (FARL letter must be emailed to OSTRegistration@vbgov.com)

Baseball Camp: Princess Anne

Jun 21 - Jun 25 

Description: Ages 8-12   
Coach St, Clair Jones of Kellam High School will focus on baseball's five skills: hitting, throwing, catching, base running and pitching. Improving any of the five will take your game to the next level. The camp is held on the Strawbridge Elementary ball field. In the event of inclement weather, we will move to gym 1 of the Princess Anne Recreation Center. A Recreation Center membership is not required. Athletic clothing, sun protection, closed-toe athletic footwear, and towel are required. Bring a labeled water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable, peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.




Pickleball Camp: Bow Creek

Description: Ages 8-12
Learn the basic rules and techniques of the popular sport of Pickleball. This will be a week of exclusive gym time for your child to be actively engaged in learning this sport and other fun activities.


Junior Golf Camp: Kempsville

 Jun 28 - Jul 2

Description: Ages 7-12
Learn the fundamentals of golf - swing, pitching, chipping, and putting in a fun environment. Each day is filled with practice, games, and a little competition. Camp includes range balls, clubs if needed, awards, and a completion certificate. A Recreation Center membership is not required. Athletic clothing, sun protection, and closed-toe athletic footwear are required. Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.

Aug 2 -  Aug 6, Kempsville

Description: Ages 6 -12
Enhance your basketball skills while practicing shooting, ball handling, defense, footwork, rebounding, and other related drills in a fun play-to-learn environment. The camp is conducted by Mark Butts, former head coach for the First Colonial Boys Basketball Team. Athletic clothing and closed-toe athletic footwear are required. Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.



Soccer Camp: Princess Anne

Jul 19 - Jul 23 

Description: Ages 8 -12
This camp will test footwork, speed, ball-handling, and vision of the field. The camp is held on the Strawbridge Elementary School field with Coach Isaac Beard. In the event of inclement weather, the camp will be move to gym 1 of the Princess Anne Recreation Center.  A Recreation Center membership is not required. Athletic clothing, sun protection, closed-toe athletic footwear, and towel required. Bring a labeled water bottle and a non-perishable snack each day. Peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.




Tennis Camps: Great Neck 

Jul 26 - 30 Ages 7-10 & Aug 2 - 6 Ages 11-14

Description: These tennis camps will help new, and novice participants develop tennis fundamentals (e.g. groundstrokes, volley, serve) through a fun play-to-learn style of learning. Practice match play and learn sportsmanship and game rules. Different court sizes and modified tennis equipment help youth to rally in no time. Notes: Racquets provided, but you may bring your own.  Camps are held on the Cox High School courts. In the event of inclement weather, we will move inside the Great Neck Community Recreation Center. A Recreation Center membership is not required. Athletic clothing, sun protection, and closed-toe athletic footwear and towel required. Bring a water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free is highly recommended.




Sports of all Sorts: Williams Farm

Aug 9 - Aug 13

Description: Ages 6-12
Participants will be introduced to a variety of sports, including basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and more. We will bring back the old school sports like four square and tetherball. Athletic clothing, sun protection, closed-toe athletic footwear required. Bring a labeled water bottle and a non-perishable snack each day. Peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.

Master Builders Lego Camp: Great Neck

Jul 19 - Jul 23 

Description: Ages 8-12
Aspiring engineers will engage in instructional design while building cool creations like businesses, green spaces, and high-rises to create a city of their dreams. This experience will boost confidence and creativity. Bring a labeled water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable, peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.




Play for Fun!  Williams Farm

Aug. 23 - Aug. 27

Description: Ages 6-12
All activities are geared for fun while playing sports, games, crafts, cookie decorating, storytelling, swimming, and more. Athletic clothing, sun protection, closed-toe athletic footwear, and proper swimwear are required. Bring a labeled water bottle and snack each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.

Martial Arts Mania and More: Seatack

Jul 12 - Jul 16 

Description: Ages 6-12
Spend the week learning traditional Japanese Martial Arts with an emphasis on Karate-do'. Participants will spend the morning with an experienced Martial Arts Instructor to develop discipline, confidence, and knowledge to achieve the title of level 1 white belt by Friday. We will break up the day with activities in the gym, pool, and activity room.  Comfortable clothing, closed-toe athletic footwear, and proper swimwear required. Bring a labeled water bottle, lunch, and 2 snacks each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free snacks are highly recommended.




Rock Wall Camp: Seatack (Waitlist)

Aug 16 - Aug 20

Description: Ages 6-12
Learn how to climb Seatack's 24ft rock wall through instructional activities, challenges, and games. By the end of the week, any participant will be able to take these skills and confidently take on the challenge of other rock walls. We will break up the day with other activities in the gym, pool, and activity room. Comfortable clothing, closed-toe athletic footwear, and proper swimwear are required. Bring a labeled water bottle, lunch, and 2 snacks each day. Non-perishable and peanut-free items are highly recommended.

Teen Media Studio Camps


Through Your Eyes | Rising 7th - 9th Graders

Dates: July 12-16, 2021
Hours: 7:30am-4:00pm
Cost: $168 (cost includes $35 non-refundable, non-transferable registration fee and deposit)
Location: Williams Farm Community Recreation Center Teen Media Studio; 5252 Learning Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23462

This program is designed to give participants a firsthand introduction to the world of visual media, specifically photography and videography. Participants will be offered the opportunity to learn the basics of photography, videography, and lighting techniques and at the end will have started a mini photo album and completed a short video project.

Things to Bring: Morning and afternoon snack, a lunch that doesn't require heating up, and a mask

Music In You | Rising 7th - 9th Graders

Dates: July 26-30, 2021
Hours: 7:30am-4:00pm

Location: Williams Farm Community Recreation Center Teen Media Studio; 5252 Learning Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23462

This program is designed to bring out the inner singer-songwriter/artist that dwells within each participant. Throughout the process, participants will be shown that being a good songwriter or artist doesn't require that you be a musical genius, only that you understand the process, know what makes songs work, and have a passion to create your own work of art. Participants will create their own songs, in various genres, and will be given the opportunity to record them at the end of the week. Participants will also learn the subtle art of mixing and music production.

Camp Media | Rising 7th - 9th Graders

Dates: August 2-6, 2021
Hours: 7:30am-4:00pm

Location: Williams Farm Community Recreation Center Teen Media Studio; 5252 Learning Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23462

This program is designed to provide middle schoolers with hands-on opportunities to learn about audio production, photography, videography and other aspects of video production. It will cover various forms of common media to include music, YouTube videos, podcasts, short films, etc.

 Payment, Refund & Cancellation Policy

Payment, Refund & Cancellation Policy

Most of our programs and camps require a non-refundable, non-transferrable registration fee and/or deposit at registration. The remaining balances are due according to the dates indicated on the program-specific payment schedules below. Break camps are due in full at the time of registration. Please note any past due balances must be paid in full before you can register.​​

If the remaining balance is not received by the due dates indicated on the payment schedules above, your child will be withdrawn from that session, week or sport & specialty camp.​ Please refer to the payment policy indicated on the appropriate payment schedule. Refund and Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing by a parent/legal guardian at least 7 days prior to the start date to be eligible for a refund. Registration fees and deposits are non-refundable, non-transferrable. Requests submitted less than 7 days but prior to the start date are eligible for 50% of a refund. Approved refunds will be processed back to the payer and the payment method used to pay.

  • Cash refunds are subject to availability of funds at any recreation center
  • Check refunds can take up to 30 days to be received
  • Credit Card refunds should post within 2-3 days of being processed ​​​
