Amhurst Park Project

Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation hosted an open house on July 11, 2019, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., at the Williams Farm Community Recreation Center at 5252 Learning Circle to review with the community a proposal to sell a portion of an undeveloped park.

The property is known as Amhurst Park and was purchased through the Open Space Program in 2001.  The proposal is to sell to an adjacent residential developer at fair market value and use the funds to develop Amhurst Park at the remaining two-acre site (see site plans and renderings below).

The property is located on Baker Road near Newtown Road. The sale was conditionally approved by the Open Space Commission with the stipulation that if the sale moves forward, all funds from the sale be directed toward developing a park there. If the sale is not approved, the property will remain strictly undeveloped open space with no recreational amenities for the foreseeable future.

The survey will remain open until Monday, August 5, 2019.
