Spend a Day at the Pool

Williams Farm PoolLeave the pool maintenance to us and enjoy a relaxing summer in the pool at any of the six community recreation centers. For the cost of a day pass ($8 for adults; $6 for ages 3 - 17), you’ll be lounging on noodles, swimming laps, and enjoying unique features like climbing walls, giant pool floats and water play structures. Williams Farm, packs the thrills with its 156-foot pool slide and outdoor sprayground. Get in the Game

Challenge your family and friends to some friendly competition on the racquetball, pickleball​, or basketball courts at our recreation centers. A day pass or membership gets you access to these amenities plus billiards, game rooms, cardio equipment and weight rooms. View amenities by site

If tennis is your sport, we offer both lighted and unlighted courts throughout the city. 
Courts at the parks are available at no cost. 

Go Climbing

Vertical Climbing Wall at Seatack Recreation Center
Age 6 & up | Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays & Sundays from 2 – 4 pm | $5/hour + day pass or membership

Traverse Climbing Wall at Great Neck Recreation Center

Age 6 & up | Monday & Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30 pm, Sundays from 3:15 – 4:15 pm | Day pass or membership required. No additional cost.

We have an abundance of parks that give you plenty of free or inexpensive opportunities for recreation and relaxation! Whether you want to fish, play sports, exercise, or have a barbeque, we have 265 parks to choose from, totaling over 4,000 acres of land!

Park Spotlight: Mount Trashmore Park
You can easily spend the day at world-renowned Mount Trashmore Park! Kids Cove playground is a mecca for children who love to climb, swing and slide. Two man-made 
mountains provide the perfect landscape for flying kites. Volleyball courts and horseshoe 
pits will satisfy those with a competitive nature along with a variety of sports equipment Mount Trashmore Skate Park
that is available for check out from the park office for free. A newly expanded asphalt trail provides the perfect terrain for walking, running or biking. This park is also home to one of the city’s three skate parks for skateboarding, BMX, and inline skating. All skateboarding facilities are free. Picnic shelters of all sizes are available to host your gathering. Shelters are first come, first serve, but reservations take priority.

Park Spotlight: Red Wing Park

Home to four very unique gardens, Red Wing Park is a locals’ treasure and an excellent spot to escape the daily grind. Pay a visit to the Miyazaki Japanese Garden and you’ll find yourself in the midst of tranquility, surrounded by cherry blossom trees, a painted bridge overlooking the calming pond, and the recently completed Azumaya, or Japanese tea house. Beyond the gardens, this park is also home to one of three public, off-leash dog parks. For a more active experience, basketball courts, volleyball courts, a racquetball court, horseshoe pits and playgrounds are all available. Sports equipment can be checked out for free at the park office. 

Bike, Walk or Run Scenic Trails

Virginia Beach consistently ranks among the most “physically fit” cities in the nation within various publications. Much of this has to do with our devotion to providing as many fitness opportunities as possible. We have over 100 miles of city bikeways and trails, each trail different from the next. Stop by Pleasure House Point for a relaxing stroll along the shoreline where wildlife sightings are sure to be plentiful. |  View trail maps

Kayak Stumpy LakeKayak Local Waters

Virginia Beach offers a number of waterways that are perfect for kayaking, canoeing and even paddleboarding. Whether you have your own equipment or would like to rent a boat, there's no shortage of opportunities to get out on the water! Munden Point Park offers kayak and canoe rentals daily. Kayaks are also available for rent at Little Island Park and Stumpy Lake Natural Area. Have your own kayak? Check out a list of free launch sites in the City. 

Beach It or Take Out the Boat

In a coastal community, the beach reigns supreme, and we take special care to offer some of the best beach and boat facilities for you and your family to enjoy.

Park Spotlight: Little Island Park

Come to the beach and the park all at once! Little Island Park offers beach access for surfing, swimming and fishing and also has playgrounds, volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, picnic shelters and a 400-foot fishing pier right along the Atlantic coast! New this year, we're offering kayak and paddleboard rentals right on the beach. No need to transport equipment, just rent and go! Additionally, a variety of items are available for check out for free from the park office including cornhole boards, footballs, basketballs, volleyballs and nets.  

Park Spotlight: Munden Point Park

For access to the North Landing River, head out to Munden Point ParkThe park also offers kayak and canoe rentals along with traditional park amenities such as ball fields, basketball and volleyball courts, playgrounds, picnic shelters and a disc golf course. A variety of items are available for check out for free from the park office including cornhole boards, footballs, basketballs, volleyballs and nets.
