2022 NRPA Gold Medal Finalist

We are proud to have been selected for the second year in a row as a finalist for the National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA), in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Agencies are judged on their ability to address the needs of those they serve through the collective energies of community members, staff members, and elected officials. VBPR was one of four finalists in Class 1 (population 400,000+): Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation,  Johnson County Park & Recreation District, & Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge. Please enjoy the video we submitted with our finalist application.

CAPRA.pngVirginia Beach Parks & Recreation is accredited by CAPRA, the certifying agency of the National Recreation and Park Association. CAPRA stands for the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.

But what does that actually mean? It means we're meeting, or exceeding, standards maintained by park and recreation leaders and strengthening the value of the programs, facilities, and experiences we provide to our community.
