Local History Collection
The Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library holds the comprehensive Local History and Genealogy collection.  The 11,000 book  collection can be found on the second floor. Most of the materials are reference and will need to be used in the library. There is a collection of audio materials which encompasses lectures from various National Genealogical Society conferences. These may be checked out. Using them will allow you to tap into the expertise of some of the best  genealogists in the country!

Included in Local History and Genealogy are books, microforms, audio materials and periodicals. There are how-to books, local histories for most of Virginia and some of North Carolina, and genealogical sources for many states.  Ask a staff member, and we will be happy to assist you.
