The Write Stuff

Write Your History

Pencil drawing line with text that says write stuffIf you’ve ever wanted to document your family’s history or trace your genealogy back through the years, VBPL has many resources to get you started on your journey, including research databases and easy links to local, state and national genealogical societies. You can browse or search the Library's Digital Archives, which contain thousands of postcards, photographs, local maps, family papers, yearbooks and other materials. Plus, Central Library’s comprehensive 13,700 item physical collection contains books, microforms, periodicals and local histories for most of Virginia and some of North Carolina. It can be overwhelming though, so where do you start? With our Genealogy for Beginners YouTube program, VBPL staff will show you the basics of getting organized and how to use physical, online and library resources to find your ancestors’ stories.

Up, Up and Away!

Yes… drones have arrived at the library! VBPL is thrilled to offer drone programming for teens and adults using our new indoor Tello drones. All programs have hands-on components — whether it's a simple objective to learn the controls or to put your skills through the twists and turns of an obstacle course. To register or learn more about the drone programs offered in November and December, visit Thank you to the Friends of the Virginia Beach Public Library for their funding of our drone program!

Stuff the Toy Boxes

Let’s make VBPL’s annual Holiday Toy Drive the most successful yet! Sponsored by our Teen Advisory Group, this toy drive supports the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services and the families that rely on them. To help, simply drop off a new toy for children ages 5 and under to any VBPL branch. Thank you for making a child’s holiday a little merrier!
