Read Together

Reading is often viewed as an introvert's dream. People, places, and plots come alive in a magical fantasy, teaching us new things and allowing us to explore possibilities from the comforts of our own homes. Yet, reading can also serve as a building block for communities. When we read together, we learn new information, learn about each other, and get a deeper understanding of the world by listening to different perspectives.

This March VBPL is focusing on building our community of readers. Join us for these free programs:

Youth Programs

Our youngest readers can learn more about their global communities at Windsor Woods Area Library on March 7 at 1 p.m. for Tagalog Bilingual Storytime, at Bayside Library on March 14 at 6 p.m. for the Goodnight, Children of the World, or at the Joint-Use Library on March 30 at 10:30 a.m. for Multicultural Storytime: Bulgaria.

Have you heard about our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge? Make sure you download the Beanstack app and start keeping a log of all the books you read with your child. Reading to preschool aged kids not only enhances vocabulary and language skills, but also helps strengthen a child's first community—his/her family.

For our school-aged children, March kicks off with another epic Battle of the Books for our local fifth graders. For students who would like to blow off a little STEAM, come to any Adventures with Cubetto: Storytime, offered throughout the month at multiple library locations. Check out these events and more at

Adult Programs

Learn more about your cultural community this month by discovering your own family history with the Genealogy Book Tour at Central Library. VBPL also has a number of book clubs for adults, including several Books on Tap where you can enjoy a drink while discussing the monthly title.

March launches the new year-round program Adults Read! Log 12 books read to win a prize and complete optional seasonal challenges to enhance your experience. You can join this new reading challenge anytime between now and February 2020.
