Find Your Circle

November is a great month to focus on the community and to connect with those around you who share your interests.

Gather the family for a movie night and stream a film into your living room. Or you can get out of the house while schools are closed Election Day, Nov. 7, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the annual Block Party at Bayside Area Library. The branch is also celebrating its 50th anniversary during the event, with live entertainment, cake, games and activities for everyone to enjoy!

November is also National Novel Writing Month! Join your fellow writers for a "NaNoWriMo" Writer's Lounge meeting throughout the month at Central to get the creative ideas flowing. If you are still looking for more inspiration or to further hone your skills, peruse "The Writer," a magazine dedicated to writers, available to download for free through our Zinio digital magazine service.

For high school students, the library is offering Art Fest at Central on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. to celebrate and grow artistic skills. This event-filled night includes keynote speaker Stephanie Jones, collaborative art from Virginia MOCA and a variety of instructional art classes.

VBPL offers book clubs for a wide variety of interests, including the popular Books on Tap! Read a book and enjoy a drink and discussion at a local brewery: Commonwealth, Wasserhund or Reaver Beach. Find more information about our Books on Tap programs and other book clubs in our event calendar.

Finally, find your spirit of giving and contribute to the annual Teen Advisory Group toy drive, created in partnership with the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services. Donate new toys for children ages birth to five at any of our library locations from Nov. 1 to Dec. 2.

This month is about spending time with friends and family. VBPL is here to help, with lots of group-friendly events, materials and services for you and your circle.
