The weather is heating up, school is out, and there are many activities and adventures to enjoy all around Virginia Beach. Your library is here to keep you informed and having fun with reading challenges, book club options, and opportunities to share ideas and learn from each other.

Join the conversation

Take part in one of VBPL's "Living Room Conversations" – small group discussions on current issues that encourage understanding and the sharing of ideas. The next two are on June 25:

    • Princess Anne Area Library: Affordable Housing
    • Kempsville Area Library: Ageism and our Growing Aging Population

Did you know? You can use your library account to research both sides of many current hot topics using  Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints. It's a great online resource for short, easy to read articles on hundreds of issues like electric vehicles, capital punishment, immigration, school funding and more.

Challenge yourself

Nothing feels better than setting a goal and working hard to achieve it. Check out these reading and activity challenges for every age:

If you need a little help choosing titles, our staff will provide personalized reading lists just for you! Plus, they've created staff picks and lists for all ages of materials by topic, including mental health, racism, LGBTQIA+ and more.

Discover stories from your past

Research your family's ancestry with VBPL's genealogy resources. Within our digital archives are thousands of postcards, photographs, local maps, family papers, yearbooks and other materials to get you started. Plus, the 13,700-item physical collection is housed at Central Library and contains books, microforms, periodicals and local histories for most of Virginia and some of North Carolina, and genealogical sources for many states.

Share your voice with others in your own book club

If you are in a book club or interested in starting one, VBPL has everything you need in our Community Book Club Kits (NEW titles added!). Each kit includes two large print copies, two audiobook CDs, eight or more regular print copies and discussion questions.
