Reflect & Connect

VBPL helps residents build community spirit

VBPL encourages you to "Reflect & Connect" this month.

We celebrated our 60th anniversary this year. Looking back at our humble beginnings in a small building on 22nd Street near the oceanfront, it's amazing that Virginia Beach Public Library now has 10 locations and provides a breadth of technological services unimaginable a generation ago – 3-D printing, wireless printing and take-home robots … to name a few.

Not only do libraries provide a quiet place to research and read, but our buildings serve as community centers bustling with programs that help people learn, reflect and connect. Parents meet up with friends by bringing their children to storytimes; adults discuss the latest hot-button topics during Living Room Conversations; and children learn computer coding skills with their peers.

Looking for new ways to be mindful while celebrating the holidays? Keep your holidays green by recycling greeting cards into gift tags, boxes and ornaments. Learn how at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Kempsville Library. Registration required. You can also join us at a community letter-writing event for the troops at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Pungo-Blackwater Library.

December is National Write a Business Plan Month. Did you know the Central Library has a Business Resource Center? View business periodicals and newsletters, and obtain one-on-one assistance with our business research sources. Call (757) 385-0150 for more information.

Whether you're building a business or celebrating the holidays, Virginia Beach Public Library is your place to reflect and connect this December.
