Library Cards

While VBPL branches are offering only lobby/drive-up services, Virginia Beach residents may call 757-385-0150 for a temporary, digital-only account.

Visit any Virginia Beach Public Library location and complete a library card application​​. You will need valid photo identification and proof of your current address.

For those under 18, a parent or legal guardian can sign the application in person with proof of current address and picture identification to obtain a youth library card.

​​Renew Your Library Card

  • All fines and fees must be paid in full before a library card can be renewed.​
  • All cardholders must renew their cards in person at a VBPL branch. The card must be present in order to renew.
  • Teen cards expire when the cardholder turns 18 and can be renewed as adult cards with proof of identification and Virginia Beach residency.

Get a Replacement Card

There is a $1.00 fee for a replacement library cards.  

For your protection, remember to report lost cards and changes of address promptly.  If you are replacing your card, you may need to update your account for other services, including digital library services. Contact the library if you need assistance.​
