Interlibrary Loan

PLEASE NOTE: All ILL borrowing will be suspended starting Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, and will resume again Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. Any requests received after Dec. 12, 2022 will be not be processed until after Jan. 2, 2023.

​​​​​For customers with current Virginia Beach Public Library accounts (or 1 year resident accounts):

If you would like to obtain a book or article not available in the Virginia Beach Public Library system, we provide an Interlibrary Loan service that can access collections nationwide and obtain many items for just the cost of return postage.  Your library account needs to be current and free of any fines, with no blocks. Teen and youth library accounts are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan service. Please contact a Virginia Beach Public Library near you for more information. ​

For others outside the Virginia Beach Public Library system who would like to borrow from our collection:

Please contact your local library to initiate an Interlibrary Loan transaction.  Interlibrary loan is a library to library transaction.  We are a free lender.​

For other library systems that would like to borrow from our collection:

We are a free lender and loan books (NO Audio-visual material) for 60 days (no renewals).  We will also copy for no charge, following Copyright guidelines, from serials or reference/genealogical materials.
