​Talking Books

Bayside & Special Services Library, in cooperation with the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, provides library service to Virginia Beach residents ​with visual, physical, and reading disabilities. Talking books, talking book players, audio magazines and catalogs are mailed directly to customers' homes. To receive the service, eligible customers must fill out and submit an application. When completed, please mail to Bayside Special Services Library at 936 Independence Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23455 or email it to libssbh@vbgov.com.

Who Is Eligible?​

  • People who are blind or have low vision.
  • People with physical disabilities who cannot hold a book or turn pages.
  • People with reading disabilities.
  • Those with temporary visual or physical disabilities.

Bayside Special Services Library offers a number of specialized programming opportunities. Call 757-385-2684 for details or visit the online event calendar​. Assistive technology, scanners and special computer software​ is available at Bayside and Central Libraries. A staff member is available at Bayside Special Services Library to assist with these technologies.​

In accordance with the City of Virginia Beach’s Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Disability Policy, customers may request a reasonable accommodation for any library programs.  Requests must be made directly to the branch manager at the time of pr​ogram registration no later than 48 hours before a scheduled event.
