​​​​Talking Books

Bayside & Special Services Library, in cooperation with the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, provides library service to Virginia Beach residents with visual and physical disabilities. Talking books, talking book players, magazines and catalogs are mailed directly to customers' homes. An eligible person must fill out and submit an application. When completed, please mail to Bayside Special Services Library at 936 Independence Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.

Who Is Eligible?

  • People who are blind or have low vision.
  • People with physical disabilities who cannot hold a book or turn pages.
  • People with reading or learning disabilities certified by a medical doctor.
  • Those with temporary visual or physical disabilities may also be eligible.

Programs

Bayside Special Services Library offers a number of specialized programming opportunities. Call for details or visit the online event calendar​. Assistive technology for public computers, scanners and special computer software​ is available at Bayside, Central and Princess Anne Area Libraries. A staff member is available at Bayside Special Services Library to assist with these technologies.​

In accordance with the City of Virginia Beach’s Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Disability Policy, customers may request a reasonable accommodation for any library programs.  Requests must be made directly to the branch manager at the time of program registration, but no later than 48 hours before a scheduled event.
