Acceptable Identification

​​​​​​For applicants under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign the library card application and return it to the library with proof of current address or valid photo identification.

Here are some examples of acceptable identification for adults:

  • ​Driver's license or DMV identification
  • Employee identification or work badge
  • School identification
  • Recreation identification
  • Social Services identification
  • Passport
  • ​Drivers license
  • Checkbook or bank statement
  • Car registration
  • Lease or rental receipt
  • Postmarked utility bill or other business mail
Teen Library Cards - Teens, ages 13 to 17, may obtain a teen library card with these forms of identification: 
  • ​School ID
  • Driver's license
  • Passport
  • Report card
  • Letter from a guidance counselor

Customers Experiencing Homelessness

In order to provide equity of access for Virginia Beach customers experiencing homelessness we will, in these instances, accept proof of school enrollment, temporary or transitional housing, or access of supportive services for homeless individuals or families. These cards will require an active email address for communication, and will have the same privileges as any Adult, Youth or Teen card. ​​
