 Bank On Virginia Beach

Learn how simple changes can make a big financial impact. Bank On Virginia Beach offers a five month course along with resources to help participants develop a basic plan to increase financial security. Participants attend one class per month and meet with a personal financial coach once per month. Through completing the course, they learn techniques to increase income, grow savings, reduce debt, build credit score, and protect assets.

 Bank On Hampton Roads Classes

The next round of free Bank On financial empowerment classes kicks off on Feb 1. Registrations will be open through Jan. 31. Coordinated through the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services, Bank On Hampton Roads is a regional partnership of participating municipalities, banks, credit unions and community organizations designed to connect unbanked and under-banked families to free or low-cost bank accounts and other resources leading to financial freedom.

​Classes meet once per month for five months and are 100% virtual. Participants can choose one of the meeting times below that best fits their schedule.

  • 6 - 8 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month beginning Feb. 1
  • 6 - 8 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month beginning Feb. 10
  • 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month beginning Feb. 19
  • 6 - 8 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month beginning Feb. 23

Earned Income Tax Credit
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), is a refundable credit that can offer low to moderate income families a boost at tax time. If you file a federal income tax return and you have earned income, you could be eligible for up to $6,269! Free Tax Preparation Services 
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is provided by IRS trained and certified volunteers at a number of locations in Virginia Beach.  VITA services are available to families with household income of less than $55,000. 

IRS gives a variety of free-file and e-file options along with a listing of VITA sites available throughout the U.S.

Virginia Department of Taxation offers a number of free tax preparation options through the Department of Taxation.
