Developmental Services

​The Developmental Services division serves Virginia Beach residents who have intellectual disabilities and their families. We aim to provide opportunities for these individuals to become self-directing and contributing members of our community and become their best self possible.
Job candidates without personal computers or Internet access may be able to use computers at any Virginia Beach Public Library to apply for employment.

​Developmental Services Program Positions

BH/DS Assistant (FT and PT)

  • Provide support and skill building with living skills, health maintenance and medication administration, personal care, and behavioral development.
  • Assist individuals with reaching personal goals within Individualized Support Plan (ISP); helps individuals take part in activities of their choice; respects individual’s beliefs, choices, and interests.
  • Minimum Requirements: Requires an associate’s degree in a human services field OR any combination of education and experience equivalent to two years in serving persons with intellectual disabilities or in fields such as human services, mental health or substance abuse.

Clinician II – House Manager/QIDP

  • Work closely with QIDP and shift leaders to ensure that the clients’ individual program plans are being followed and that active treatment is taking place; and confer with the nurse on duty regarding healthcare issues.
  • Orient all new staff; supervise and complete quarterly observations for quality assurance, ensuring program implementation and documentation.
  • Minimum Requirements: Requires a four year degree in a human services field and three years experience working with persons with intellectual disability OR experience and/or training equivalent to seven years in fields working with persons with intellectual disabilities.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Responsible for contributing to the biological, psychological and social assessment of clients. 
  • Assist with the development and implementation of health-related components of the Individual Program Plan (IPP).
  • Minimum Requirements: Possession of a current and valid license issued by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) as an LPN and one or more years of experience as an LPN to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification.

Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Provide biological, psychological, and social assessment of clients. 
  • Collaborates with members of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and other health care professionals in the community to ensure objectives of the Individual Program Plan (IPP) are met as well as the welfare, health, and safety of the individuals we serve. 
  • Minimum Requirements: Requires current and valid licensure as a RN by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) and two or more years RN experience to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification.
