If assistance is needed, please reach out to by calling (757) 385-4157; please select "Option 9".How do I find out what jobs are available?Visit the WAVE (Web Application for Virginia Beach Employment) to search for jobs that are currently available. A list of available positions can be viewed 24-hours-a-day on any computer with Internet access. Click here to access the W.A.V.E. . How does the application process work?Applicants will complete their applications online from any computer or mobile phone with internet access. Applications are reviewed/screened ongoing or after the closing date. The hiring department will contact the applicants that have been selected for an interview. You may check the status of your application after the closing date by logging into the WAVE. Applicants will receive emails as position statuses are updated.What if I do not have a computer or access to the web?Any of the public computers located at all Virginia Beach Public Libraries. Customers can log in for 2 hours at a time and up to 4 hours per day. To view library hours, visit Location & Hours page on the Library website. Where can I find out information about employment with City of Virginia Beach Public Schools?Visit the Schools' Web site at www.VBschools.com.Who will see my application if I use the online WAVE site?Your application is on a secure web server and will be available to the Human Resources Department, departmental Human Resources liaisons and the interviewer(s) for the specific job opening for which you apply. The City of Virginia Beach does not share its database with other companies or localities. Application FAQs What if I forget my password?If you do not remember your password there is a ”click here” link under the “Login” button that allows you to reset your password. A link will be sent to your email account that allows you to reset your password. The Human Resources Department does not have access that allows them to reset the password for you, so you must remember your email account. Where do I begin?To begin the application process, you will need an email address to create a profile account. You will also need to create a password for this account. Select a password that you will easily remember. Once logged into your WAVE account, please enter any relevant information (education, employment history, certifications, licenses etc.). You will use your profile account to apply for available positions or to check on the status of applications that have you have submitted. Can I apply by sending my resume via email?All applications should be completed using the W.A.V.E. site. Paper applications and resumes will not be accepted by fax, email or postal service.Can I apply for more than one job at a time?Yes, once you have completed your online application through our WAVE site, you can apply to multiple positions that are currently open.Can I copy selected information from another electronic document?Yes; for example, you can copy and paste the information from a Word document directly into the appropriate fields in the application form. You can also upload your resume or LinkedIn Profile and the system will automatically place the information into the appropriate information fields. Please review after upload, editing may be required. Do I have to fill out an application?Everyone who applies for a position is required to create an application, which includes certain information. Any required information is denoted with an asterisk (*). However, the more information you provide, the easier it will be to effectively evaluate your skills, abilities and qualifications.Do I need to apply online if I am only interested in part-time positions?Yes, applicants must apply online for part-time positions.How can I check the status of my application?Using the W.A.V.E. site, you can login using your email and password. Once logged in, click on View Status on the left of the navigation selection. To check your status, click “View Status” on the left side of the navigation bar. How do I print my application?Before submitting your application, click on the “Print Application” link. How do I save my application?You must click “Submit” to save the information you have entered. If you close your browser prior to clicking “Submit”, your information will not be saved. To continue working on your application at a later time, click “Update My Information” to make changes and/or add information. How long is my application valid?Your application will be stored in the system for approximatley three (3) years. However, you must apply to be considered for a position opening. I am having a technical problem with my computer that is stopping me from completing the application or applying for a job. What can I do?Be sure to use an updated browser like the current version of Edge, Google Chrome, Safari, etc. You may email us at hrcareers@vbgov.com with the specific problem and the Human Resources Application Office will assist you. In the event of an approaching deadline, computers are available at all Virginia Beach Public Libraries or anywhere there is public Internet access.I get a blank screen. What can I do?Be sure you are using an updated browser like the current version of Edge, Google Chrome, Safari, etc. Also, under your browser Internet options, you need to have cookies and java script "enabled." If you are still having difficulties email us at hrcareers@vbgov.com with the specific problem and Human Resources Application Office will assist you.I missed the deadline - can I still apply?As with any position, once a closing date (deadline) has passed, no applications will be accepted. Please continue to visit the WAVE site and apply for new jobs as they become available. What if I am not ready to fill out the application at this time?If you do not want to complete the application at this time, please close your browser screen. What if I have already created an application?If you have already created an application in WAVE, and wish to update your information, login with your email and password that you used when you created your application and click "Update My Information” on right side of the navigation menu.What if I want to submit a resume?You will be able to submit a resume each time you apply for a position. There will be directions prompting you about how and when to attach your resume. Please note that attaching a resume does not substitute for completing the application form.What information will I be asked to provide?You will be asked to provide personal information such as name, address, phone number, etc. You will also be asked to provide information about your education and previous employment, as well as contact information regarding your employment history and references. Please gather this information before beginning the application.When/how can I make changes to my application?Changes can be made to your application at anytime. However, once you submit an application for a particular position, you cannot go back and make changes to the submitted application. However, changes or updates made to your application will be reflected for any new position for which you apply.Go to the online WAVE site, login using your email address and password. Click on " Update My Information” on the right side of navigation menu. Make the desired changes to your application and save it. Your original application is replaced with the new version.
