Short-Term Mortgage Assistance Program

Families and individuals experiencing homelessness or in imminent danger of losing their housing should, as always, call the Regional Housing Crisis Hotline, (757) 227-5932, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Referrals will be conducted by phone.

The Short-Term Mortgage Assistance Program is available to help prevent the foreclosure of eligible low- and moderate-income homeowners in Virginia Beach who have experienced a significant loss of employment income or child or spousal support due to COVID-19.

Assistance is only provided to applicants who:
  • Were not offered a forbearance from their lender OR
  • Are no longer in forbearance and are unable to make their mortgage payments
The program provides eligible households with short-term assistance to pay mortgage payments that were delinquent on or after April 1, 2020. Assistance is provided one time and payments are made directly to the mortgage company. This program does not provide rental assistance.

Please refer to the eligibility requirements and full program details below to see if you are eligible for assistance.

All housing assistance programs are subject to availability of funding, program guidelines, regulations and requirements, and income guidelines as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which are subject to change at any time at the discretion of HUD and may affect applicant eligibility and or benefits.
