Volunteer Support Tech Application Process

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER SUPPORT TECH JULY 1 – AUG 15

1. Complete the VST application  during the application period July 1 – August 15

2. Complete the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ)

3. BOTH VST application and the PHQ due to Fire HR by 5:00 EST, August 15, 2016. Faxed and/or emailed packets WILL NOT be accepted.

Delivery Options:​

U.S. Mail/Deliver packet in a sealed envelope to VBFD-HR, 4817 Columbus Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. 

Office Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST. If hand-deliver, write name on sealed envelope.

4. Attend one information meeting AND physical assessment at the Fire Training Center, 927 S. Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach, VA

  • Saturday, August 6th, 9:00am - 11:00am
  • Saturday, August 13th, 9:00am - 11:00am
  • Wednesday, August 17th, 4:00pm - 6:00pm

5. Background Investigation

Candidates who successfully complete the Physical Ability Assessment will move forward to the background investigation phase. Fire Human Resources will review applications, DMV driving records, references and state and federal background check results. Candidates will also undergo a polygraph exam

6. Final Steps

Candidates with satisfactory background results will move to the final steps: a Safety Sensitivity Physical (at the City's expense), FBI fingerprinting and Child Protective Services registry check. Those deemed medically fit for duty who clear these final steps will be able to attend the Volunteer Support Technician training program
