Public Art

The City of Virginia Beach recognizes that the arts tell a community's story, reminding residents and visitors of what makes a city different and special.

Public art has the power to energize our public spaces, arouse our thinking, and transform the places where we live, work, and play into more welcoming and beautiful environments that invite interaction. Virginia Beach's public art program enhances our city's identity as a community that supports and promotes creative expression.  It builds our sense of civic pride and enriches our quality of life.

Murals Popping Up at the Town Center of Virginia Beach

The Virginia Beach Development Authority, in partnership with the Town Center Advisory Board and the City’s Office of Cultural Affairs, have engaged local artist Richard Nickel to create one‐of‐a‐kind murals on three interior walls of the Block 4 Garage at the Town Center of Virginia Beach. These murals will be the first murals in Town Center.

The goal of the murals are to foster a sense of welcome to Town Center, while broadening perspectives of public spaces within the City. “Town Center has become a vibrant arts and cultural destination with an abundance of creative businesses and artistic elements. We are excited to support local and regional artists with opportunities to showcase their work,” said Nina GoodaleSalazar, with the Citys Cultural Affairs Office. The selection process was extremely competitive and attracted impressive submissions by local artists. After careful consideration, the selection panel was impressed by Nickel’s cheerful designs that expressed the branding and energy of Town Center.
