  What is CASA?
  • A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer who is appointed by judge to represent the best interest of a child in court.
  • A CASA volunteer may be assigned to a child who is a victim of abuse and/or neglect.
  • The CASA volunteer carefully researches the background of the child and family and reports back to the court.
  • The CASA volunteer makes a placement recommendation to the judge and remains assigned to the case until it is permanently resolved.
CLASS Attorney:  What is a CLASS attorney?
  • Concerned Lawyers Advocating Spousal Safety (CLASS) is a pro bono project sponsored by the Virginia Beach Bar Association.
  • The goal of the program is to provide representation to victims of domestic violence at the hearings for protective orders.
  • Every Friday, volunteer lawyers appear in court to provide victims with such representation.
  • On the morning of the hearing, a CLASS attorney is assigned to represent the victim during that hearing only.
