ISSUE: Recreation Centers Are Only Good For Exercising. They Don’t Offer Anything More Than Other Gyms, Do They?

FACT: All of our seven recreation centers are equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, but they're also community centers offering classes, holiday events, childcare, camps, and much more.
Once you look beyond the surface, it becomes clear our recreation centers are much more than gyms. It’s certainly true that they offer what you’d expect – exercise machines and equipment, walking tracks, climbing walls and swimming pools. But they also offer a whole host of programs covering a wide range of interests and age groups. Some activities include yoga, sports tournaments, paint nights, dance lessons, martial arts classes and much more. In fact, there’s simply too many to mention here, but a complete list can be found here.

Making sure individuals of all abilities are able to participate in offered activities is a top priority for our recreation center staff. Inclusion Specialists are at each center, and work to ensure all members of our community have the opportunity to enjoy the activities through some common accommodations such as adaptive equipment, modified games/activities, visual aids or individualized techniques. More information about the inclusion support services can be found here.

All of our recreation centers also have capacity to rent their facilities for private events such as club or civic league meetings and birthday parties. You can reserve rooms, gyms and pool lanes by the hour. Staff will even set up the provided chairs and tables for your event. And if you’re looking for themed parties, like rock climbing, Nerf battles, or human foosball, Parks & Recreation has it covered.

The recreation centers do require a membership to participate. However the rates are competitive to private gyms, and offer pricing tiers for families, individuals, children and senior citizens. For example, if you’re a casual visitor, a premier membership with unlimited drop-in group fitness classes might not be what you need. Instead, consider a day pass package. Click here to view a complete list of membership options and prices. And don’t forget – one membership is good for all seven locations.

Some insurance also covers a membership. The recreation centers also partner with SilverSneakers, Silver & Fit, Renew and Fitness Coach. Check with your provider to see if you’re eligible.
