VBPD Provides Safe and Secure Medication Disposal

Get rid of old prescription and over the counter medications safely.
In an effort to curb prescription medications falling into the wrong hands, the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) offers collection boxes, available year-round, at each precinct station. The collection boxes provide an environmentally-sound alternative to disposing of unneeded or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. The collection boxes also can also accept medical sharps such as lancets or glucose syringes.

Items dropped off at a takeback location will be collected, taken to an incinerator and destroyed under the supervision of VBPD personnel. Disposing of medications this way, instead of flushing them down a toilet, prevents them from entering local waterways.

If you have expired medications or used medical sharps, please consider dropping them off at any of the four VBPD precinct offices listed below. Note that illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia are not accepted at any of the takeback locations. There’s no legal requirement to drop medial sharps off at the precinct locations, however it is strongly encouraged, especially if there’s reason to believe sharps are being scavenged from the trash.
