Learn What to Do in an Active Threat Situation

Virginia Beach police are offering training so you know what to do if you ever have to face an armed individual with bad intentions.

man with a gunThe Active Threat Citizens Defense (ATCD) workshop is being held Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Coastal Community Church located at 2800 S. Independence Blvd. in Virginia Beach. Participants will learn how to respond to armed individuals with bad intentions as well as prevent and prepare for potential active threat situations. By being prepared, you can lessen the risk of one of these incidents and, if one occurs, you can help reduce the number of potential victims.

This workshop is FREE and open to the public, however you must RSVP as seating is limited. To RSVP or if you have any questions, contact Master Police Officer David J. Nieves at dnieves@vbgov.com

This training will teach you how to:
  • Recognize hostile situations and how the mind reacts.
  • Realize how items around you can be utilized to defend yourself and save your life.
  • Understand how the body reacts during stressful situations.
  • Perform a “no-skills needed” maneuver to combat a gunman and much more.

Children who are able to comprehend and handle the subject matter are welcome to participate. No weapons are allowed in the building. All bags are subject to inspection and wanding for weapons may occur at the door. There will be a 30-minute break for lunch – you may pack a meal or restaurants are nearby.

Please note that this event was previously scheduled to take place at Zeiders American Dream Theater and, due to logistical concerns, the location has been changed to Coastal Community Church.
