Specifically, the award-winning Information Technology Department, with the launch of its Master Technology Plan two years ago, is in the midst of an exciting technology evolution that will transform the City of Virginia Beach. With the support of City leadership, major initiatives surround four customer-centric themes: Transforming Service Delivery, Building Better Business Solutions, Strengthening Governance, and Improving Infrastructure and Operations. 

As credit to the City's innovative team of IT professionals, Virginia Beach was recently named One of America's Top Digital Cities, and this year, the IT department also won an Excellence Award for Transformational Leadership. Now, they are changing the technology landscape through developments such as a Next Generation Network, converged architecture, mobile-end user applications, Cisco enterprise infrastructure standardization, mobile device management, and more. All of these strategies will ultimately achieve the vision of building a "Connected Virginia Beach."

The Department of Information Technology 

Virginia Beach's IT department has developed a multi-year, fully-funded infrastructure modernization plan that will transform and revolutionize government services. Resources are secured to create positions to build these new transformational teams to fully support the infrastructure modernization plan. These dynamic teams of engineers will be part of the Master Technology Plan that will set technology paths for the next decade.

As a Systems Engineer with the City of Virginia Beach, you will have the opportunity to build and construct leading edge technologies from best-of-breed solution providers in the industry. The successful candidate will lead and strengthen their industry skillsets, work collaboratively with some of the best technologist in their fields, and have an opportunity to work with leading technologies such as EMC VBlock supporting the Next Generation Data Center, a carrier grade MPLS Optical Next Generation Network, Cisco, F5, VMware, and other best-of-breed technologies.
