BUSINESS TAXPAYERS
Business licenses are due March 1, 2021. Late payment penalty will be assessed beginning March 2, 2021, for 2021 delinquent business license renewals.
Conduct the following business transactions with the Business License Portal.- New applications;
- Prior year and current year business transactions for existing businesses;
State and city cigarette stamps may be purchased by sending a Cigarette Stamp Order Form by licensed courier (UPS, FEDEX, etc). Inquiries related to local excise taxes on meals, lodging, admissions, utilities, and cigarettes may be addressed via phone, email, or mail service. ALCOHOL AND BEVERAGE LICENSE FLAT RATE FEE - TAX YEAR 2021Due to the economic impact of COVID‐19 on your industry, Commissioner Kellam sent a letter on December 30, 2020, to the Mayor and City Council suggesting a suspension of the flat rate alcoholic beverage license(s) for the 2021 license year. Councilman Tower sponsored the ordinance; the City Council unanimously approved it on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
If you have not renewed your business license for the 2021 license year, do not include payment for the flat rate alcoholic beverage license with your renewal payment. If you have paid your 2021 alcoholic beverage license and do not have a balance due, this office will refund your business entity. Please understand, you still must include the alcohol sales in your gross receipts and meals tax filing; this is a waiver for the flat rate alcohol license only.

BUSINESS PROPERTY TAX
- Business property returns must be filed by March 1, 2021, to avoid a failure to file penalty.
- The payment for 2021 business property bills is due June 7, 2021; late payment penalty or interest will incur beginning June 8, 2021.

INVESTIGATIONS
- Questions regarding short-term rental host appointments or summonses may be addressed by phone.
- Special event applications may be completed and sent via email or mail service.

PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX PAYMENTS- The personal property tax payment due date is June 7, 2021. Late payment penalties and interest begins on June 8, 2021.
PERSONAL PROPERTY ASSESSMENT APPEALS- All personal property transactions including sold items, items moved to another jurisdiction, local vehicle registration exemptions, and personal property tax relief exemptions may be conducted via phone, email, fax, or mail service.
- In-person reassessments are postponed indefinitely.
PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS FOR ACTIVE-DUTY MILITARY OR MILITARY SPOUSESAll active-duty military seeking personal property exemption and military spouses seeking exemption by attestation may send the documents by email to corles@vbgov.com, fax to 757.427.1802, via any mail service, or use the convenient drop box in the parking lot outside of City Hall, directly across from the main steps. There is also a dropbox inside the foyer of City Hall.
