Sister Cities Assocation of Virginia Beach

The City of Virginia Beach acknowledges the importance of Sister City relationships for the purpose of international understanding, friendships, cultural and educational exchanges and economic/tourist development activities.
 
On November 26, 1991 City Council adopted Resolutions which reaffirmed Virginia Beach's Sister City relationship and mutual understanding with the City of Moss, Norway; and extended invitations to the people of the Cities of Miyazaki, Japan and Guatemala CityRepublic of Guatemala to create a mutual understanding in establishing a Sister City relationship with the City of Virginia Beach. On October 7, 1992, a letter with the Mayor's signature, extending warm greetings to the Mayor of Higashihiroshima City, was also delivered.  On March 6, 2001, Sister Cities International issued the charter for North Down Borough Council, Bangor, Northern Ireland
 
Currently, City of Virginia Beach Sister Cities are Moss, Norway, Miyazaki, Japan and North Down County, Ireland​.
 
In order to assist in coordinating resources and communicating Sister City exchanges, it is determined that a policy be developed to identify a "core" organization. The name of the organization shall be "The Mayor's Sister City Commission".
 
In 2010, the Mayor's Sister City Commission was reorganized as "Sister Cities Association of Virginia Beach".  For more information visit the Sister Cities Association of Virginia Beach​.
