Healthy families make healthy communities. Virginia Cooperative Extension strives to improve the lives of families by teaching them how to utilize research-based knowledge to develop financial literacy and make nutritious food choices.


 Consumer Education

​Consumers learn how to protect themselves from scams and identity theft. They also learn professional development and job readiness skills.

​​​​FCS Agents help community members understand money management and financial responsibility. Through various workshop and training ​opportunities, participants learn how to review their financial situation, how spending styles affect financial decision-making, how to develop a spending plan, how to set financial goals and strategies to achieve them.​

Master Financial Education Volunteers

This program focuses on helping families build their financial capacity through classes on money management, planning for home ownership, getting out of debt, retirement planning and preventing identity theft through one-on-one mentoring.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Family Nutrition Program helps families with limited resources learn to ​eat healthier and be more active.   

All programming and materials are free, however you must be eligible for (but not necessarily enrolled in) the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or WIC in order to qualify.
