Field Trips & Educational Programs

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​If ​​you're interested in trying some local foods and learning about Virginia Beach agriculture and its history, sign up for of our "Taste of the Market" tour.  For younger children​, the Market offers a "Fun on the Farm" tour.  Each tour is unique, inviting, educational, and fun for everyone!

Bus parking is available and picnic tables are scattered throughout the grounds. 

Restrooms, ATM, and a water fountain are also available for public use.

 Fun on the Farm Field Trip

Fun on the Farm flyer​​Your students will enjoy visiting the Farmers Market and participating in several hands-on activities including:
  • Milking “Beachy” the model Holstein cow
  • Making butter​
  • Pumping water and washing clothes using a washboard
  • Grinding corn
  • Visiting the Market gardens 
“Fun on the Farm” is recommended for students from Preschool through 5th grade. Many of Virginia’s SOLs concerning agriculture are covered during the field trip. Topics include: insects, vermiculture, plants and farm animals, with an emphasis on life cycles, habitat and reduce, reuse, recycle.

Cost: $7 per child; there is no cost for parents or teachers.

 Taste of the Market

TASTE OF THE MARKET is a down-to-earth tour that features a sampling from Season's Best Bakery, The Country Butcher, Gilly's Creamery and our produce vendors. Escape from the Boardwalk and take a taste of Virginia's Finest; finish your visit off with some leisurely shopping.
