Friends of Live Oaks Open House

May 17, 2014, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Great Neck Recreation Center
2521 Shorehaven Drive, Virginia Beach

Learn all about live oaks and the many benefits they provide homeowners at an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 17, at the Great Neck Recreation Center, 2521 Shorehaven Drive.

The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Friends of Live Oaks. Information on this coastal tree and how to plant and grow it will be available. Light refreshments will be served.

The live oak is the official tree of the City of Virginia Beach because it can withstand hurricane force winds, provide shelter for birds and animals, control erosion and enhance property values with its shade and beauty.
Live oaks are celebrated in history and can have a life span of several centuries. Youngsters love to climb them and build tree houses among their branches. The Friends of Live Oaks are dedicated to planting, promoting, and protecting these iconic trees which are rarely found north of Hampton Roads.
