The City of Virginia Beach has hired Athena M. Plummer to run its E-911 emergency service and its 311 information communications program. Her title will be Director of Emergency Communications and Citizen Services.

Plummer is currently deputy director of emergency operations 911 in Washington, D.C. Before that, she was commander of the Communications Division of the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland.  She holds a master’s degree in management from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Maryland.

She will start the job on Oct. 19.
