Take Advantage of the Toilet Rebate Program . . . We'll Pay You $75

The Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities offers customers a $75 rebate for each conventional toilet replaced with an ultra low-flush toilet. Ultra low-flush toilets allow for significant reductions in household water consumption by using no more than 1.6 gallons per flush. To be eligible for the rebate, you must:

1. Be a water customer of the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities.
2. Complete a rebate application and purchase a plumbing permit. For information, call the Virginia Beach Division of Permits and Inspections at 385-4211. Toilets previously rebated through the program (even if by a previous property owner), or toilets that already use 1.6 gallons or less per flush, are ineligible. Homes built after 1993 already have low-flush toilets. Rebates subject to availability.
3. Install an ultra low-flush toilet using no more than 1.6 gallons per flush. A city inspector will verify the installation of the toilet. Ultra low-flush toilets are available at home improvement centers and plumbing supply houses.

Make sure that the toilet you purchase uses no more than 1.6 gallons per flush. Select a model that will satisfy your specific needs and conforms to the space requirements of your bathroom. Consider purchasing a WaterSense certified toilet, which must meet strict standards for functionality and water efficiency. Visit www.epa.gov/watersense for a list of WaterSense approved high-efficiency toilets. The WaterSense program is similar to the EnergyStar program, but focuses on the water-efficiency of non-electric plumbing fixtures.
