![]() | The adopted Pembroke Area Strategic Growth Area 4 Implementation Plan (the Pembroke SGA Plan) is an important planning policy tool that showcases an exciting, innovative and shared vision for future growth and development within the Pembroke SGA growth area. The boundaries of the 1,200-acre Pembroke area generally include the Thalia Creek basin to the east, Jeanne and Broad Streets to the north, Clearfield Avenue to the west, and Bonney and Baxter Roads to the south. |
This plan was created following an extensive public input process. It began with more than 75 citizens and stakeholders participating in a two-day public charrette on January 29 and 30, 2009 at the Westin Hotel. This event provided an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to comment and offer their opinions on a range of planning and design issues that are important to them. The first day focused on goals, opportunities and constraints followed by a further review and presentation of these issues on the second day.
Moreover, about 50 citizens and stakeholders attended a public input meeting on Thursday, February 5 at Strayer University's Virginia Beach Campus. In addition, about 100 people attended a public open house on May 21 at Princess Anne High School to learn more about this plan and offer their comments. The reception was positive and the project team obtained many ideas and suggestions on how to improve the quality of this long-range plan. Finally, public hearings to receive public comment were held before the Planning Commission on October 14, 2009 and the City Council on October 27, 2009. This Plan was adopted by City Council on November 10, 2009.
