The Virginia Beach Fire Department will provide the venue for the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Department to host their second annual Fire Explorer Challenge to be held Saturday, Oct. 31 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Virginia Beach Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Training Center, located at 927 S. Birdneck Road in Virginia Beach. The Explorer Posts are made up of young men and woman ages 14 to 21 that have an interest in the fire service. The Explorers participate in training drills and exercises just like fully trained career firefighters, but not in hazardous environments. Participating agencies at this year’s challenge include Explorer Posts from the City of Norfolk and the counties of Henrico and James City. The Explorer Challenge consists of a modified version of the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge. The events will include a high-rise stair shuttle with a four-story hose roll hoist, a 75-foot hose drag, and a 175 lb. firefighter down rescue drag. At the end of the challenge the Explores will participate in non-hazardous fire ground evolutions. For additional information, please contact Battalion Chief Leon Dextradeur at (757) 385-8713. ### 374fire |
