UPDATE - Traffic to be Affected by Sanitary Sewer Improvements In Virginia Beach’s College Park Section

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the first phase of construction has been modified. Beginning Monday, Aug. 31, demolition work will take place in the medians of Providence Road and College Park Boulevard. During this time, the following lanes will be closed:

  • Providence Road:  The two inside lanes between College Park Boulevard and Amherst Lane will be closed and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • College Park Boulevard:  The two inside lanes between Brynmawr Lane and Bennington Road will be closed and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

The demolition work will be completed by Sept. 14, at which time the original traffic control plan will begin and the following lane closures will be in effect:

  • College Park Boulevard southbound:  The two southbound lanes between Barnard Way and Auburn Drive will be closed and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Auburn Drive:  The east and westbound lanes will be closed at the intersection of College Park Boulevard. A detour will be in place.

During the project, work will be performed Monday through Friday and when necessary on Saturday and Sunday. The final phase of the project is expected to be completed by July 2010, weather permitting.

                                       Traffic to be Affected by Sanitary Sewer Improvements

                                                     In Virginia Beach’s College Park Section

 

The first of a seven-phase public utilities project beginning August 17 will result in lane closures on College Park Boulevard  and Auburn Drive.

 

During the first phase of construction, the following lanes will be closed:

  • College Park Boulevard  southbound: The two southbound lanes between Barnard Way and Auburn Drive will be closed and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Auburn Drive: The east and westbound lanes will be closed at the intersection with College Park Boulevard  A detour will be in place.

The public utilities project entails removing a pump station on Providence Road and installing sanitary sewer pipe on College Park Boulevard and Providence Road. Demolition of the pump station and construction of the new sanitary sewer pipe will be completed in seven phases, with multiple lane closures during each phase. Virginia Beach Public Utilities will provide updates on the lane closures in effect as the work progresses.

 

During the project, work will be performed Monday through Friday and when necessary on Saturday and Sunday. The final phase of the project is expected to be complete in May 2010, weather permitting.
