Do you know you can appeal your assessment based on condition or high mileage and reduce your personal property tax bill?

If you feel your personal property (this includes: cars; trucks; motorcycles; RV's and business use vehicles) has been assessed for more than its fair market value, you may now appeal this assessment at the Commissioner's office.

As a convenience to the taxpayer, Personal Property Assessment Appeals will be conducted in the North Landing Municipal Parking Lot, located across North Landing Road from Courthouse Drive. This service is available weekdays between 8:30 am and 5 pm from May 4 until June 12, 2009, and on Saturday, May 30, from 9 am until 12 pm.

ATTENTION ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL WITH VIRGINIA LICENSE PLATES
If you have a home of record other than Virginia, you must submit a current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) annually to the Commissioner of the Revenue to qualify for your exemption from the Local Vehicle Registration Fee and Personal Property tax.
