Notice to Mariners Posted for Rudee Inlet Shoaling


Release Date:  Monday, October 12, 2009  12 p.m.

A notice to mariners has been posted for Rudee Inlet due to serious shoaling conditions, based on a City of Virginia Beach survey, dated October 2, 2009.  Conditions reported are least depth from 8.0 feet MLLW (mean lower low water), in the inbound channel, starting at the approximate East end of the North Jetty and continuing eastward approximately 300 feet. The survey also indicates shoaling in the outbound channel, least depth 8.6 feet MLLW, approximately 200 feet East and West of the East end of the South Jetty.

 

Mariners are urged to exhibit extreme caution when approaching this area.  Use idle speed when approaching the inlet and seek local assistance if unfamiliar with the inlet and its condition.
