Recycling Drop off Sites

These centers are for the use of Virginia Beach residents only.

These centers will collect the following:
  • Newspapers, magazines, cardboard, chipboard, junk mail and telephone books may be placed in a paper bag and dropped into the slot. Acceptable items are anything that come in the newspaper, including catalogs, colored advertisements and those items with a slick, shiny finish. Acceptable cardboard is clean, unwaxed and flattened. Un-acceptable cardboard is anything that is dirty, or lined or coated with a non-paper coating such as wax or plastic. Cereal and cracker boxes are considered cardboard. Please no plastic bags.
  • Aluminum and steel cans along with plastic bottles together in one slot. Please remove and discard all bottle caps on plastic bottles. Acceptable plastics are milk jugs, water bottles, soft drink bottles and laundry and detergent bottles that have a neck, seam and a spout. Acceptable metals are beverage cans, clean aluminum foil and pie plates and tin cans. Labels are OK. Un-acceptable metals are metals in the form of anything other than a can.
  • Acceptable glass are bottles and jars that are clear, green or brown; including soda, beer, juice and ketchup bottles. Labels on the bottles are OK, but caps need to be removed and discarded. Unacceptable glass is ceramic, including ceramic cups and plates, and beer and wine bottles with ceramic caps, clay flower pots, crystal, light bulbs and window panes.
It is very important that only acceptable materials by placed in the containers, as even a small amount of unacceptable material in the bin can result in contamination.
