In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" campaign and the Virginia Beach Fire Department encourages all public safety organizations and citizens around the world to wear pink on October 25, 26 and 27. Wearing the color pink is not just to benefit breast cancer, but it is a way to support women in their fight against ALL cancers. The Virginia Beach Fire Department hosted the nationwide Pink Heals Tour ’09 earlier this month, when it made a stop in Virginia Beach at Mount Trashmore Park. The mission of the Pink Heals Tour is to raise public awareness regarding cancer, to honor all the people who battle cancer, and to thank the families who tirelessly work to make their lives better. They drive a pink fire truck, dress in pink turn-out gear and pull a trailer with the "Our Ribbon of Hope" stainless steel statue 10,000 miles across America to more than 40 cities spreading the word about the "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" campaign. The "Pink Heals Tour" is traveling from Glendale, AZ to Concord, NH and back. Cancer survivors in each city they visit are encouraged to come out and sign the trucks and trailer and tell their stories of survival.
