Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office Recognizes Art Contest Winners

Release Date:  Wednesday, October 28, 2009  3:15 p.m.

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today the four winners of an art contest held to design an office seal.  The winning students who placed first, second, third, and honorable mention are Shae Johnson of Salem High School, Woojin Ra of Princess Anne High School, Franchesca Soliven of Salem High School, and Cameron Spiro of Frank W. Cox High School, respectively.

The winning seals were selected from 27 creative designs submitted by students in grades 9 through 12.   The students had approximately one month to explore ways to incorporate images of both Virginia Beach and the criminal justice system into their artwork.

“In an effort to focus interest in our criminal justice system, we initiated this contest for Beach high school students.  We were impressed by the creativity, insight, and talent these students demonstrated,” Bryant said.

Bryant will visit the winners’ classes to commend them for their hard work and present their prizes.  The prizes include $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd, and $25 for Honorable Mention.

The 94 dedicated staff members of the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office prepare and prosecute about 16,000 criminal cases per year.  The seal designed to represent the office may be used on letterhead, office apparel, and for display in the office.
