The City of Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission (HRC) is excited to announce this year’s Diversity Art and Essay Contest. The theme for this year’s contest is Reasons for Hope. “With all of the changes in our country, we thought it would be a great time to ask our youth community about their thoughts on hope,” said William Dyson, chair of the HRC. Virginia Beach elementary-, middle- and high school-age students who attend public, private or home school can participate in the art portion of the contest. The essay portion is open to middle- and high school-age students. Entries must be submitted by Friday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. Entries can be mailed to the Department of Human Resources, c/o Human Rights Commission, Virginia Beach, Va. 23456. They can also be hand-delivered to Room 106 in Building 18 at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. An entry form must be attached to all entries.
