Meet the City Auditor

The Office of the City Auditor is an independent appraisal function within the City responsible for financial and performance audits of City businesses, functions and activities. The services provided: enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of City operations; ensure compliance with Federal, state and local laws and regulations; and maintain an internal control framework which reduces the risk of loss to the City.

Lyndon S. Remias was appointed by the Virginia Beach City Council in May 2008 to become the City's first appointed City Auditor.  Remias is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) with over 19 years of public, private, and governmental auditing experience.

Remias worked most recently with Amerigroup Corporation and Eastern Virginia Medical School, where in 2003 he was appointed as the first Internal Auditor for the Norfolk medical school.  Remias was elected to the Virginia Beach School Board in May 2006 where he served for two years prior to resigning to accept the City Auditor position.

Remias is a graduate of Old Dominion University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting.

Remias has been a leader in the internal auditing profession. Remias previously served on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), an international organization which governs the internal audit profession. While on the Board he served on the Regional Directors committee.  Remias was also a past President of the Tidewater Chapter of the IIA and a former Mid Atlantic District Representative. Remias now serves as a volunteer instructor with the IIA.

Remias is very active in the local community.  He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Virginia Beach Education Foundation, an advisor for the Tidewater Community College Department of Accounting Advisory Council, he is a youth soccer coach, and he is the founding Chairman of the Young Filipino American Professionals of Hampton Roads.  Remias formerly served as a member of the City of Virginia Beach Community Organization Grants (COG) Committee, United Way Community Funding Panel, and Old Dominion University’s Department of Accounting Advisory Council.  In 2003 Remias was named to Inside Business “Top 40 under Forty” for his service and commitment to the community.
