Detective Bureau Home Page

The Detective Bureau is supervised by Captain K. J. Perry and is divided into sixteen specialized squads which handle cases referred for investigation by uniform personnel or directly by citizen complaints. Additional cases are referred from the Commonwealth's Attorney Office and other city departments.

Eleven experienced sergeants supervise the sixteen squads. These supervisors have developed expertise in the specialty areas listed below. Three lieutenants and one civilian supervisor share the administrative and command duties. They are Lieutenant Frank La Porta, Lieutenant Dennis A. Hebert, Lieutenant James A. Kaiser and Supervisor Daniel W. Clanton.

Mission Statement
We intend to provide superior investigative service and administrative support to all customers, in order to enhance the quality of life for citizens and visitors, reduce the impact and fear that is created by crime and thereby strengthen the economic vitality of Virginia Beach.

We accomplish this mission through identifying, selecting and training quality personnel who conduct prompt, diligent and professional criminal investigations. Our personnel maximize the use of all available human, material and technological resources and focus on the recognition, collection and preservation of physical evidence. These efforts are conducted in concert with the building and maintenance of positive relationships with other internal and external agencies.
