| The railroad to Virginia Beach and the
publicity of the Princess Anne Hotel encouraged other developers, and several hotels were
built in the early years of the 20th century. By the time the depression came, Virginia
Beach was established enough to survive hard economic times, and the resort continued to
flourish through the war years, and into the economic boom of the 1950s and 1960s.
