The Brock and Shepherd families, related by marriage to the Whitehurst, Atwood, and Nimmo families, are old names in Princess Anne County. William Shepherd's daughter Elizabeth (1770-1800) married Henry
Brock (1766-1818) on August 8, 1793. After her death in 1800, Henry Brock married Elizabeth Prichard (d.1836), widowed daughter of Jonathan Whitehurst, in 1802. The younger
Henry Brock was born in 1805, married Eliza Jane Spratley (1819-1903) in 1838, and died in
1866. Henry Brock, Sr., Henry Brock, Jr., and William Shepherd were land and slave owners,
and served in the Virginia militia. |
