They built the Virginia Beach Hotel and a pavilion, and incorporated the Norfolk and Virginia Beach Railroad and Improvement Company to provide rail service from Norfolk to the oceanfront. The Virginia Beach Hotel was sold, remodeled, and reopened in 1887 as the Princess Anne Hotel, one of the country's most luxurious resorts.
