| Seaside Park, built in 1912 by Norfolk and
Southern Railroad, extended between 31st and 33rd Streets on Virginia Beach's oceanfront.
Elaborate walkways connected the railroad station with the famous Peacock Ballroom,
restaurants, bathhouses, and amusement and picnic pavilions at the beach. When the New
Ocean Casino opened in 1924, Seaside Park became known as the Old Casino. After a fire in
1956, Seaside Park gradually succumbed to new hotel construction. The final section of the
amusement park closed in 1986.
