C. Michelle Norton, known as Mic to family, friends and library customers, was a seventeen year employee of the Virginia Beach Public Library. Mic died on October 3, 2004 following a brave battle with cancer. A 1987 MSLS graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Mic was an exceptionally gifted reference librarian who worked at the Central Library since it’s opening on January 17, 1988. Her reputation was so great that the Central Library's reference desk often received inquiries for help from around the country. Her passion for research and love of genealogy led her to collect postcards of Virginia Beach, Virginia as a means of preserving local history.
