Virginia Beach Public Library is helping citizens prepare for November’s elections, providing free access to information, voter registration and more. Each library has a “Decision 2012” display, with books and materials about voting, candidates, issues, citizen engagement and other topics.
Many resources are accessible on the library’s website with a Virginia Beach library card, including a variety of newspapers and research tools, like Opposing Viewpoints, which covers all sides of important topics. There’s also a government information link.
Voter registration is also available at all library locations. To vote on Nov. 6, citizens must register by Oct. 15. Visit the Voter Registrar's Office online in advance to review requirements and find more information.
As a fun way to encourage civic engagement, Virginia Beach Public Library is holding a Presidential Penny Poll, now through Oct. 14. Library-goers “vote” by tossing pennies into containers representing the candidates. The Penny Poll winner will be announced before Nov. 6. All money collected during the poll will be donated to the Friends of Virginia Beach Public Library.
